Just when the whole world is rocking Terri‘s first single in 2019 “On Me“and Mavin new boy, Rema’s “Dumebi” a matter arose.
I’m of the opinion that young and budding acts should have a mentor and role model from the already established acts.but they shouldn’t take ones person style and sound as to be their own sounds and style strictly, that’s when copying someone sounds sets in.
Unless you’re living under the rock, you’ll be one of those who haven’t to either or both of Terri’s new single “On Me” and Rema’s “Dumebi”.
If you have, you’ll notice that these uprising artistes have chosen their own mentor in term of sounds and style and it’s no other than Wizkid.
Few months back, Mavin unveils their new act, Rema and his self tittled 4 tracks EP, which consists of his breakthrough single “Dumebi”.
Dumebi has been a bedrock a lot for controversies surrounding the new act, Rema. It’s said that Rema has probably locked himself up for a while to study Wizkid tune and tempo.
The new boy response was savage inclined that it led to to one of the heaviest controversy in the scene so far. Rema replied “Wizkid copied his own sound, and not him copying his”.
If you haven’t listened Rema’s Dumebi, you can do so below:-
The starboy signed artiste, Terri released his 3rd official under the Starboy Music imprint and dubbed it “On Me”. We’ve known Terri to be basking in the already established Wizkid tune and pattern.
The Wizkid style he implemented has been the major secret to his skyrocketed career. We even find it difficult to differentiate between his own lines and that of Wizkid in their 2018 Label anthemic sound “Soco”.
Wizkid definitely saw himself in Terri’s before signing him to his label initially. I’m sure Terri was just a boy dreaming on becoming the Next Wizkid in the tight corner of his room before the astonishment of getting signed by his mini-god actually came to play.
When I listened to Terri’s on me, I hear Wizkid sound and I was wondering if Wizkid gave the song to Terri. But I know that’s not the case though.
Incase you still missing out on Terri’s On Me, kindly update yourself before joining the conversation.
Wizkid has become an household and also an honcho with his own style and sound of famous Afro-pop curated by the legendary Fela.
Wizkid, Burna Boy amidst other artistes too has chosen Fela to be a great model in style and sound, but a little work is done on the sound that makes it widely different from Abami Eda’s sound totally.
